Teddy Ballgame played 19 years for the Sox as a left fielder. Twice he stopped playing to serve his country. He was an all-star 17 times, and posted a career batting average of .344 and is the last batter to hit over .400. He’s arguably the best hitter in baseball history. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1966, six years after retiring. His number 9 was retired in 1984.
