Joe Cronin was a Sox player/manager for the Sox from 1935-1935, then continued to manage the Sox for 2 more years. From 1947-1958, he was the Sox G.M. In 1959, he became the first player to be elected as the American League’s President, a job he kept until 1973. This shortstop was a 7x All-Star, 5 of which with the Sox. His number was retired by the Sox in 1984.
